Preparation Week #10
I’m starting to feel like I’ve got a good grip on the basics now.
I’m starting to feel a lot more confident in my workmanship and doing a lot of jobs by myself. I know what needs to be done and how to do it. I still think I’ve got loads to work on but I’m pretty happy with the stage I’m at for the moment. It’s been a big jump going from someone who knows literally nothing to the stage I am at now, but I think two of the most valuable things I have gained from the entire experience so far are: a strong ambition to provide a high-quality service in what I am producing, and having the confidence to learn a new skill. Especially the latter. I came to this as a complete newbie, and I have gone from that to someone who has a good idea about what is going on around him. It really makes me wonder what is the limit to what I can learn?
Anyway let’s get into some of the work I’ve actually done over these two weeks. First of all I upgraded a couple of fuse boards to have full RCBO protection. Aesthetic-wise there is still a bit of work I’d like to do to improve how I can make it look cleaner, the cable management in the back of the boards in particular, but I’ll have plenty more practice in the future.
Another different interesting job I had this week was second fixing a kitchen, meaning fitting the accessories like sockets, switches, fans, etc. after the initial wiring has been fitted and the kitchen has been plastered. It isn’t something I get to do very often so it’s a nice change to climbing in loft spaces or changing a couple of sockets.
Also, more news of the past two weeks, I passed my driving test! I want to get a car so I can try out some more of the cycles like the sailing or farming, but at the moment I’m limited until I can actually buy a car, but I will be starting preparing the foundation for either one of these. I’m still undecided though.
German
The language learning process is a very repetitive thing, constantly going over words, doing whatever immersion you can and then redoing it, especially when you don’t live or have any real-world way of exposing yourself to the language. I’m still really enjoying German, and I’ve been able to apply myself almost every day. Its especially nice to see myself improving almost every week, It’s like the burden of trying to understand is slowly getting lighter, and almost like magic you know a few extra words you’ve heard a few too many times.
